Yes, all our installers are for Bz 1.4, so if you have saved game files from any old installer, you can of course copy them to your new installation. Every installer is the same game, we just make any minor improvements that we can, like adding more multiplayer maps, etc.

hey bz community, i played this game back in 99, 2000 and I was hoping to download it. I noticed that the download server says temporarily down but I was wondering how long it would be down for or if their was an alternate site to dl from.

Hello there and welcome. I'm uploading it as we speak. There's no alternate download cause it is a brand new version, just compiled. I'm uploading it for someone who has to upload it somewhere else. Everything should be ready in a few hours. Hold on.

sweet. seriously. I forgot about this game and am really excited that their is a community still playing it!
Are their a lot of cheaters because back in the day it was flooded with hackers and glitchers and also are the servers hosted in europe or america?

I won't lie to you, there are few hackers among us, but we are community of 100 ppl so everybody knows their names, aliases, IP's, the way they drive, they way they talk... You should give everyone a chance and confirm accusations with your own eyes, but take a special look at the Wall of Shame. All hackers are listed there (many of them stopped playing after treatment they have been given by the fair guys on the new server). There's only 1 Bz server, battlezone1.net. It is located in Arizona, but in case you forgot, in Bz, the host is the server, so server's location doesn't matter. Plus, Bz 1998 installer has option for broadband hosting, while the game from CD is set for dial up. You will notice much less lag with this installer.

Keep me up to date And ff we end up in need of mirrors I could throw it up some o ma servers for the time being. I assume there won't be massive leeching so should be fine, else I'll have to keep an eye on the downloads so the bandwidth graphs don't get all wispy. Give me a shout if you need some space.

Link for the newest installer is in Downloads section. Those who already have Battlezone 1998 v1.0 and don't want to download v1.1 (with Bz Soundtrack), should just unzip attachment from this post into their RO addon folder (C:\Program Files\Battlezone 1998\The Red Odyssey\addon), to get the main fix.

I tried it out, and haven't noticed any change to be honest (single player) except that the vehicles seem to handle subtly different. To bad it doesn't play the soundtrack.
anyway the installer is still great as it is.

Few custom maps in BZ 98 installer lack the edge path (proper radar map). I'll fix that in the new installer version/map pack. But there are few stock maps with the same error and I'm unsure what to do about it... Replacing stock maps is not an option, cause that would give MVM, so only thing I could do is include both versions. But is that fix really needed? If nothing, it would take some time for everybody to get the fixed versions... What you think? This is how the fix looks like: Singularity Europa

Well, I could see that fixing the maps would be beneficial, though I don't think its truely needed.

I never thought much of the detail of the CAPS LOCK map, but the fixes look nice. That also reminds me of a "flaw" I saw on Battle Arena (non-stock DM map): Rave Guns are at Navs 1-4, the very top of the map in the corners. The size of the map seems to be wrong. For example, if you go North of Nav 2 or Nav 3, or West of Nav 2 or Nav 1 you fall off the edge of the map and it can be difficult to get back up without a rejoin. At Nav 4 however, you bounce off the map's invisible edges and do not fall. I know it can't be "fixed" without separate version of the map or new BZ patch (1.5).

I hope that the one who goes for the raves on B-Arena will fall off and never come back. I'll fix edges only on newer custom maps, that are not popular yet (B-Arena is not one of those), and if enough requests, I'll add fixed versions of the stock maps. Like is it now, overview radar map on Europa and Singularity is pretty useless.

Can you change the Bobcat so that the AT stabber comes out of the cannon not underneath the cockpit?
