I've been thinking about this too.

In my opinion, there are 2 reasons why Grizzly is "too strong" with MDM replaced with Mortar:

1. Those aware of the bug have gotten used to not using the MDM. It's as if Grizzly had empty mortar hardpoint already.

2. The Mortar is simply a better weapon than the MDM. Grizzly was too weak before, now with mortar, it'll be a bit too strong.

The suggestion of long delay mortar didn't seem right.

"Light Mortar" didn't seem right either.

I have thought of a 3rd idea:

Short Range Mortar
A Mortar with reduced shot speed so that you can only shoot so far. ammoCost will be that of current MDM. (40 shots in a Grizzly)

It will allow clearing of mines/killing of pilots in strat without the MDM bug, yet won't allow you to be 250m away from your opponent, slowly picking away at their hull with Mortars.

No matter what we do, it won't be stock. So we can decide which change we'd want in BZ 1.5.

Having a non-stock mortar weapon is better than no mortar weapon at all.

I tried a Grizzly in campaign with empty mortar hardpoint. Didn't like it.

EDIT: Short Range Mortar isn't good at all. I ended up damaging myself more than my enemies. Decreasing range of mortar makes it no good.

I say we go with Light Mortar.

As long as we decrease the ammo cost, decreasing damage isn't so bad.

Yeah, I think we already established that it can't be fixed in the code. :(

We are left with 2 choices:

1. Light Mortar that does a lot less damage. It could be stock in vehicles, but not available in the Armories.

2. Simply remove MDM and leave a few vehicles with empty hardpoint.

I am leaning towards option 1, but option 2 is good too. Grizzly had strength in campaign with MDM, but it lost its strength online because of the bug. That is why I lean towards option 1.

Won't matter unless reaper makes 1.5, OR you all WANT my "1.41" patch.

Nobody wants 1.41 though, unless it has code fixes like FPS, E-W, and Allied Silo scrap loss, AKA 1.5.

EDIT:
Our current solution for BZ 1.5 Patch is removal of MDM in mutiplayer, but it will stay in single player.

This is currently your stock Grizzly in BZ 1.41/1.5 multiplayer:

The MDM Mortar will simply disappear from multiplayer vehicles and Armories.

I am not 100% happy with this choice of a solution, but I accept it. Empty mortar hardpoint in multiplayer beats having MDM Bug in multiplayer.

EDIT 2:
For an experienced player who has remapped their keys and hits accurately with the MDM, it can be just as strong as Mortar.

I actually remapped my keys so that instead of F10 and F11 for last 2 hardpoints, I can press F and C.

In single player, I can link my MDM with Minigun + AT and it's a lethal combo. :P
