I have just installed The Red Odyssey "RO_1.3M" and it works great in single player but I get an UE when I try to create a game in multiplayer. Is there a solution for this?

Edit: Almost forgot to add that I am using WinXP Pro SP3, Geforce Go 7900GTX.

Thanks!! :)

I'm confused... there shouldn't be any difference between single player and multiplayer game...
Few of us played RO online, nobody had any problems...

At which point exactly you get an UE?

Do you get UE when creating MP game with BZ1.4M too?

BZ 1.4 works perfect in single player, online and over IPX. Red Odyssey works in Single player and I can get into the lobby just fine but when I create a game in Multiplayer (Online or IPX LAN) I get an Unhandled Exception.

I just now found the problem and fixed it! I will try to explain below:

I had a problem with RO not working because it could not find Battlezone. I have a dual boot system with Vista on the C: drive and WinXP on the D: drive.

First I had BZ 1.4 installed in (D:\Games\Battlezone) and RO couldn't find BZ so I installed BZ 1.4 in the default directory on the D: drive and RO still couldn't find BZ!!! :( I then "Copied" the installed BZ files from the D: drive to the default install directory on the C: drive so when RO looks on the C: drive for BZ it will find it there. It worked!!

I could launch RO and it didn't give me the error that it couldn't find BZ. The only problem was that it would not let me create a game in Multiplayer.

The only thing I could think of that may be causing the problem is the fact that I "Copied" the install files from my D: Drive to the C: Drive instead of actually installing BZ on the C: Drive.

I removed the copied files from the C: Drive and actually installed BZ in Vista on my C: Drive so RO would be able to see the complete installed game instead of finding the copied files.

That did the trick! RO now works in Multiplayer just great!

I wish there was a way to tell RO where BZ is installed so I didn't have to go through all of this crap :) Do you know of any way to edit RO so it will look for the installed BZ files somewhere besides (C:\Program Files\Activision\Battlezone)??

Hope you understood my lengthy explanation :) If you have any questions just let me know.

Thanks again for your reply.

you're welcome, but it seems that you helped yourself. :)

there's a note under ro1.3m link which says:
"it requires original Battlezone or Battlezone 1.4M to be preinstalled in C:\Program Files\Activision\Battlezone."

you probably missed it. :(

it's a registry thing. in ro's registry it says to look for bz in default folder because ro needs bz files to operate.
when you install bz somewhere else you can edit your registry entry and change that path.

Yes I finally read that and that is when I decided to just copy the BZ installation files from the D: Drive (XP) where BZ was installed to the C: Drive (Vista) location where RO would look for the files. Copying the files worked for single player in RO just fine but it screwed something up in Multiplayer and gave me an UE when I created a game.

I then removed the files I copied to the C: Drive and actually Installed BZ on the C: Drive and that solved the Multiplayer problem :)

I took your advise above and found the registry entry for RO, labeled (Battlezone Path), and edited it to look for the installation files for BZ on my D: Drive. I was able to uninstall BZ from my C: Drive (Vista) and RO now works perfect!!

I don't like to install my games into the default locations. I like to create a Games folder such as (D\:Games) and install all of my games there :) Now that I was able to edit the Registry entry for RO, I have everything setup the way I like it :)

Thanks again for your help
